Crescent Hill Reservoir Portraits | Alexis

“She belonged to a different age, but being so entire, so complete, would always stand up on the horizon, stone-white, eminent, like a lighthouse marking some past stage on this adventurous, long, long voyage, this interminable --- this interminable life.”

― Virginia Woolf⁣

I’ve always had a fascination with the gorgeous Gothic architecture at Crescent Hill Reservoir, and as a Louisville photographer, that meant it was on my “portrait photo location bucket list”. Thankfully this winter, model Alexis Bode agreed to do a photoshoot there with me. We both felt very inspired by the Brontës and 19th-century literature on that gloomy day by the reservoir. Gothic novel/book covers/Sargent painting vibes, for sure.

“It is far harder to kill a phantom than a reality.”

― Virginia Woolf⁣

Autumn Louisville Graduation Portraits | Lexina

I am so excited to share these portraits I took of Lexina for her graduation from the University of Louisville! We had a blast at UofL campus taking some portraits in her cap and gown, popping champagne (to various degrees of success), followed by some fun photos in St. Matthews to take advantage of the autumn leaves! One of the best things about being a Louisville photographer is the variety the city offers in terms of locations to photograph! When we saw the gorgeous golden yellow ginkgo tree and vibrant violet Japanese maple trees we knew we had to use them in these portraits!

Dancing Around Louisville | Emily Larsen

“Dance first.
Think later.
It’s the natural order.”

- Samuel Beckett

I love when my interests merge with my art making and I get to collaborate with brilliant people for photos. This dance photography session was a fantastic romp around the downtown Louisville area with dancer Emily Larsen— one of many, I hope!

Emily is a professional dance competitor and instructor at Dance Louisville whom I met while taking dance classes. We started our afternoon photographing at the Patriots Peace Memorial (where I was totally getting Grecian Goddess Temple vibes), then moved on the the Louisville waterfront, Kentucky Center for the Arts, Kentucky Science Center, a few other spots downtown, and ended at Mellwood Arts Center. She is truly incomparable and slayed the whole session!!

Yoga and Lindy Hop Around Louisville | Emily

Emily is a yoga and Lindy Hop teacher in Louisville, and when she was looking for a photographer to shoot photos of her doing yoga and Lindy Hop around the city I jumped at the chance to photograph her! I was eager to test out a new camera-- plus she's an amazing person and a joy to photograph. I was obsessed with getting photos of her with some of Louisville's colorful street art/murals, and we caught some of the early spring flowering trees and wild flowers too!

We hit up the waterfront/Big Four Bridge, Butchertown, Cherokee Park, and the Highlands for this fun, colorful session.

Boudoir and Studio Portraits | Sarah

Finally getting this boudoir and portrait session up on the blog! I loved shooting this moody boudoir session with Sarah in February-- with that fickle winter sun granting us with fascinating light and shadows flickering in and out of our shots.

For the in-studio portraits, I wanted to experiment-- I painted a huge canvas dropcloth to use as a portrait background, some new printed wall tapestry backdrops from Society6, and colored light combos in my softboxes to play with. Sarah had some poses she wanted for her modeling portfolio, plus some killer hot pink boots that reminded me of Elle Woods from Legally Blonde so... obviously we had to get shots of those!
