Country Ballroom and Ballet Dance Photography | Nashville
“… Dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.”
— Anne Morrow Lindbergh
I truly enjoy photographing dancers— in Louisville, I take dance classes at a local studio (Dance Louisville) for fun, not for competition, and I have met some of the most amazing people and great friends because of it. This year I went with them to their UCWDC Worlds Country Dance World Championships in Nashville at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and we took a bit of time to take photos after one of their competition days!
The location really lent itself to the posed tableaus and the dancers were amazing models! Below is a mix of country ballroom and ballet dance, with some fun portraits as well!
Dancing Around Louisville | Emily Larsen
“Dance first.
Think later.
It’s the natural order.”
- Samuel Beckett
I love when my interests merge with my art making and I get to collaborate with brilliant people for photos. This dance photography session was a fantastic romp around the downtown Louisville area with dancer Emily Larsen— one of many, I hope!
Emily is a professional dance competitor and instructor at Dance Louisville whom I met while taking dance classes. We started our afternoon photographing at the Patriots Peace Memorial (where I was totally getting Grecian Goddess Temple vibes), then moved on the the Louisville waterfront, Kentucky Center for the Arts, Kentucky Science Center, a few other spots downtown, and ended at Mellwood Arts Center. She is truly incomparable and slayed the whole session!!
